Fiber Arts Show – Postponed

Please note that due to unforeseen circumstances, the Fiber Arts Show is postponed until further notice.

AiA’s Fiber Arts Show showcases a wide range of artistic creations using textile materials and techniques: knitting, weaving, quilting, embroidery, macrame, felting, rug hooking, lace making, basketry, sewing, papermaking, to name a few. Fiber arts is a creative field where artists use natural or synthetic fibers and textiles to create works of art   Fiber art emphasizes the artistic process and the unique qualities of the materials. It can involve intricate patterns, textures, and color combinations.

Fiber art is a dynamic and evolving field where artists use textiles to explore cultural, social, and personal themes. It allows for storytelling and personal expression through the use of colors, patterns, and symbols. Fiber art has a rich history rooted in ancient cultures, where it served both practical and ceremonial purposes. In recent decades, there has been a growing recognition of fiber art as a legitimate and important form of contemporary art, with artists pushing the boundaries of traditional techniques and materials.

We are including a Wearable Art Fashion Show during the opening reception on First Friday. These will be art pieces designed in the form of wearable art of all kinds. This includes clothing, hats, jewelry, shoes, anything constructed of fiber that is worn on the body. Yes, it can be fun and silly. There will be 2 awards given by the judge, Most Imaginative and Best Design. “Judge’s Awards,” value  over $100. (At least 8 artists must participate.)

An open Call to Artists is currently available for fiber art for the show and wearable art for the fashion show. The prospectus and application can be accessed at https://aiafiberartsshow2025.artcall.org/pages/fiber-arts-show-call-to-artists.  The deadline for online submissions is Wednesday, October 14th.

We may ask you to bring your 8×8 2-D artwork (painting or other medium) next year to donate for this display. It will be a good chance to get your work and your name in the public eye.

Springtime Art Exhibition

Art events Salem: Join us each spring as Artists in Action presents a fresh artistic challenge for the Springtime Art Exhibition in April that encourages creativity and community engagement in the Salem, Oregon and Willamette Valley area. Past themes have inspired local artists to explore the essence of spring, and we look forward to seeing how this year’s theme inspires new works.

Previous exhibitions have showcased remarkable talent, and we invite you to be part of this vibrant tradition. AiA’s inaugural springtime call and exhibit was titled “Spring Reign.” For our second annual event, we asked artists to create works inspired by the phrase, “Spring Eternal.” For our third event, in 2022, the theme was “Spring Fling” and for the fourth event, in 2023, the theme was “Essence of Spring” and the fifth year was “Spring Renewal” for 2024. This last year, 2025, we called for art interpreting either Spring or The Colors of Spring (or both). The resulting art exhibition is held at Elsinore Gallery in downtown Salem, Oregon during April. Who know what the show will be called this year for inspiration! Send in your ideas!
