Month of December plus an Evening Reception
Downtown Salem Businesses
Something Red is AiA’s crown-jewel (a ruby!) event. This juried exhibit has evolved and gained notoriety over the years. All submitted artwork, of any medium or style, must incorporate RED as a focal point or primary color in the composition.
Elsinore Gallery, 444 Ferry St. SE, hosts a majority of the works as well as the artists’ reception and awards ceremony. Select downtown Salem businesses also display the highly artistic pieces at their locations during December; in 2019, those included:
• Roy John Designer Goldsmith @ 315 Court St NE
• Wild Pear Restaurant @ 372 State St NE
• Ritter’s Housemade Foods @ 102 Liberty St NE

New this year: The Something Red Call was managed via ArtCall.org. ArtCall is a secure on-line portal (application) that offers a streamlined process for all aspects of call-for-entry management including entry fee payments. Artists, administrators and jurors all benefit from a single-point of access. Participants who register on ArtCall’s website for this year’s Something Red event can simply log in there for future juried exhibits—both AiA’s and other calls ‘out there’.
