WHEN: Tuesday, August 17, 5:00-7:00 pm
WHERE: Bush Barn Art Center, 600 Mission Street SE
The Salem Art Association will 'demystify' ifs application process and share tips for applying to juried shows anywhere, during a FREE workshop.
The main goal is to help local and regional artists prepare a strong application to show work in Bush Barn Art Center's CAMAS Gallery during fall and winter.
Catherine Alexander will be the main presenter. She will cover such topics are creating a cohesive body of work, pricing one's work, taking top quality photos of one's work or location professionals to do so, and preparing written applications. The presentation will also cover the current Camas Gallery jury process, changes to this year's Holiday Showcase, and applying for the 2011 Salem Art Fair & Festival.
All new and returning artists interested in applying to exhibit in the A.N. Bush Gallery during the Holiday Showcase are encouraged to attend this free tutorial on the jury submission guidelines. Learn how to make your jury application stronger, including tips on photographing your artwork, drafting an artist statement and more.
Please note: If you currently have artwork on exhibit in the Galleries during the Spring-Summer season, to participate in the Holiday Showcase you will need to re-apply with four new digital images of available work created within the past year. Artwork that has previously been shown within a 30-mile radius of Salem, or was created under the supervision of an instructor in an educational setting, or was completed more than 12 months ago is not eligible for the jury.
For additional information about the upcoming Jury Submission Workshop contact Catherine Alexander, Gallery Director, at catherine@salemart.org or at 503-581-2228, ext 302.

Women Ending Hunger "Art to me is a humanitarian act and I believe that there is a responsibility that art should somehow be able to effect mankind, to make the world a better place." -Jeff Koons
Hello Robyn Bearce (AIA member) here....
That quote says it all. And now you have an opportunity to express yourself with our local group, Women Ending Hunger. This is a very active group which is spearheading a "stand in" to demonstrate the fact that come September there will be 37,000 children going back to school in Marion and Polk counties on empty stomachs. We're asking for your help.
So where as artists do we come in? Women Ending Hunger needs 24 plates. Plates you create. Plates that express your vision of the world. Plates that can be silently auctioned and whose proceeds go to feed the hungry. Plates that make a difference right here at home...maybe right here in your own neighborhoods. Here are the details:
Plates: Make your own. Buy your own or Women Ending Hunger will give you one! It can be anything...anything... that reflects your vision. Clay, ceramic, paper... a garbage can lid; create it!
Theme: No, it doesn't have to be about this cause. It is your vision of the world. It can be ANYTHING!
Gotta know: Let me know by Monday, August 16th...that's this next Monday, if you are interested. I'm NOT talking that your plate is completed by then, I'm asking you to simply make a commitment that you will complete it by....AUGUST 23rd. How? Just RESPOND to this EMAIL. It will come back to me, Robyn Bearce.
Bio: If you say "yes", provide a quick, 2-line bio about yourself and your media.
Display: Your plate will be on display at the Salem Centre Mall in two gorgeously lit, secured, glass cases on the main floor of the Mall. The silent auction will occur 6pm - 7:30pm September 1st. Receipts for sales will be made available to you. DETERMINE your own value. Donations are tax deductable.
Press Release: Yes, this event will be and already is in the news. Given the scope of this "stand in" event, this will be heavily covered up to and including the event. For more information go right here ----> http://www.marionpolkfoodshare.org/
Thank you,
Robyn Bearce
